Dr. Elizabeth Cleves holds a certification in Substance Abuse Counseling from U.C. Berkeley and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Cleves has a private practice in the East Bay and has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, groups and youth. Dr. Cleves has given nationwide trainings, workshops and lectures on a variety of subjects including substance abuse recovery for adolescents, music therapy for youth and seniors, group treatment for grandparents, and helping adult children of narcissistic or substance abusing parents and/or partners. During her graduate training, Dr. Cleves designed an interpersonal group treatment model to help adult children dealing with the effects of having narcissistic parents and/or family members with substance abuse issues. Her work in this area has become her specialization and has been presented nationwide at various conferences and professional trainings including the Annual Conference of The American Psychological Association. In addition to treatment for individuals, couples, youth and seniors, at her private practice in Benicia, Dr. Cleves currently facilitates a variety of groups including her signature treatment model for treating Adult Children of Narcissistic/Addicted parents. Dr. Cleves began her teaching career as a drama teacher in the Washington, D.C. area and has been an enthusiastic member of the Counseling Psychology teaching staff at JFK since 2018.
