Doreen Maller is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, faculty of the Holistic Counseling Psychology department of John F Kennedy University and is the founding Program Director of John F. Kennedy’s Academic Certificate in Trauma Studies. Her teaching focuses primarily on Systemic and Human relationships.

After a first career in the corporate world, Dr. Maller chose a mid-life pivot that included going back to school to study human connections and healing. This journey, which included insights of self, exploration of communication and connections, societal intersectionality, compassionate education and the role of helpers in the process of human transformation, has been the focus her later adult work.

She is the co-editor of the Praeger Handbook of Aging and Mental Health (2017) the series editor for the Praeger Handbook of Community Mental Health Practice (2013) and a contributor to Beyond Burning Bras: Feminist Activism for Everyone (2010), The Encyclopedia of School Crime and Violence (2010) and the Sourcebook of Expressive Arts Therapy (2007). She earned her PhD from California Institute of Integrative Studies in 2009, in Transformative Learning and Change. Her dissertation focused on adult women who were incarcerated as juveniles but not subsequently as adults.

Dr. Maller maintains a private practice in San Mateo Ca.
