Alvin McLean, Jr., Ph.D. is currently a professor of clinical psychology, Co-Director of Clinical Training, and Associate Dean in the College of Psychology at John F. Kennedy University. Dr. McLean received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology and psychophysiology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI and he completed a three-year post doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. McLean was also on faculty in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine for seven years where his areas of research included the neuropsychological and psychosocial sequelae of traumatic brain injury, neuro-pharmacology, and care management strategies to improve daily functioning after brain and spinal cord injuries. Dr. McLean has published over 30 articles, multiple book chapters and one book in these areas of research. He has also presented at numerous professional conferences and research symposia. In addition to his academic work, Dr. McLean has an extensive business background. He has developed residential, outpatient and home-based rehabilitation programs for persons with brain and spinal cord injuries in the corporate sector of healthcare. He was Senior Vice President for Paradigm Health Corporation for over 20 years. Dr. McLean is currently co-owner of a medical specialty home health agency that manages chronic medical conditions in patients’ homes.
Dr. McLean is active in his community. He is a member of the Board of Regents for Samuel Merritt University, Board of Directors of San Francisco Theological Seminary, and he is also on the boards of the Bay Area Albert Schweitzer Fellows and Man2Man Urban Youth Advocates, an organization that works primarily with African American young men between the ages of 10-30 from disenfranchised and underserved communities to provide mentoring, coaching and mental health support to help them achieve their optimal potential. Finally, Dr. McLean is a musician and choir director and has served as the Director of the Men’s Chorus at Allen Temple Baptist Church for 25 years.
