Women are growing in increasing numbers in the military, comprising 15% of active US duty military personnel. As the minority in a predominantly male culture, women encounter different issues in response to the experience of war. In this intermediate course, participants will learn about women’s role in the military, as well as ways to effectively assess and treat the specific issues that women who were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan now face (i.e. depression, binge eating, PTSD, somatic problems, etc.). Special emphasis will placed on the different traumas they may have been exposed to and critical areas of readjustment after coming home.
Instructor: Pamela Planthara, PsyD
Pamela Planthara, PsyD, is a former military psychologist and Captain with the United States Air Force. During active duty, she served as Team Chief to the Pentagon Family Assistance Center, providing bereavement counseling for families impacted by 9-11. Afterward, she served as a Disaster Team Chief at the Pentagon providing critical incident stress management to Pentagon personnel. Dr. Planthara also served as chief of outpatient mental health, chairperson for a community task force committee, and a behavioral health consultant in primary care. For the past 7 years she has worked with veterans who suffer from PTSD at the Oakland Vet center and currently with the Oakland VA behavioral Health Clinic.

Returning Users – How to Access Your Courses:
Please select the “Returning User? Log in” Option. Your e-mail is your username, and your password is what you selected at registration. If you have forgotten, please click ‘Forgot Password?’ and follow the prompts.

Course Completion Time Limit
You will have 90 days to complete the online course from the date of registration. You may request 30 day extensions for a fee of $35. E-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call us (800.557.1384) to begin this process. Extensions take a few days , an email will be sent to you when the extension access has been granted.
