This advanced course will introduce clinicians to the changes in the DSM-5 and also provide an understanding of the structure of ICD and the use of ICD codes. New regulations require that clinicians use the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD) rather than DSM codes on federal documents (VA Medical Centers, Medicare, et), and insurance companies and other agencies are likely to follow suit. The ICD section on mental disorders and DSM-V overlap, but also have some important differences. In this course, participants will learn the changes in DSM-5, the conceptual and clinical implications, and how to understand and apply both DSM and ICD codes.
