Applications of Clinical Hypnosis in Mind-Body Medicine

Learn to define hypnosis, identify myths and misperceptions about hypnotic interventions, and describe hypnotic phenomena. Assessments of hypnotizability and brain research both show that hypnosis is indeed an evidence-based, effective modality. Methodology for identifying phases of hypnosis and levels of hypnotic ability will be provided, as well as theoretical frameworks from which these developed. Through interactive, online learning, explore self-hypnosis skills, treatment planning strategies, knowledge of ethical issues in hypnosis, and various applications of hypnosis in clinical settings. This course has audio/visual components and text content divided into 10 lessons.  You will see and listen to lectures and be directed to read text materials and watch videos. The quizzes and final exam may be repeated as necessary. Videos are not closed captioned.

Instructor: Darlene Viggiano, PhD, MFT, is a licensed therapist in Kaiser Permanente’s Adult Psychiatry Department, Intensive Outpatient Program. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Saybrook University in San Francisco. Dr. Viggiano earned Certification in Clinical Hypnosis from the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the largest organization in the United States for hypnosis professionals.

JFKU-CE is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) to provide continuing education for MFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs & LEPs and by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) to provide continuing education for RNs.  JFKU-CE maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Check that you have read the Terms and Conditions, and then click the “Register for Course” gray box.

The webpage will refresh to your course page. Click “Launch Course” to begin!

Returning Users – How to Access Your Courses:

Please select the “Returning User? Log in” Option. Your e-mail is your username, and your password is what you selected at registration. If you have forgotten, please click ‘Forgot Password?’ and follow the prompts.

Technical Requirements:

Before you begin an online course, please make sure your computer has a broadband Internet connection. A dial-up connection is not sufficient. The online courses require that you use the most recent Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox Internet browsers, which you can download from these links: PC/Mac: Chrome (newer Macs only) or Firefox (Macs over 2 years old). Safari is not compatible. Adobe Flash player is also required and can be downloaded by clicking here.

Course Completion Time Limit

You will have 90 days to complete the online course from the date of registration. You may request 30 day extensions for a fee of $35. E-mail (conted@jfku.edu) or call us (800.557.1384) to begin this process. Extensions take a few days , an email will be sent to you when the extension access has been granted.

Accessing Certificate

Successful completion of the final exam and submission of the course evaluation unlocks your certificate. Please select the “Retrieve My Course Details” button to print or save your certificate. *You may need to refresh the course dashboard webpage for this button to populate.
