In 2015, it is estimated that there will be over 5 million cases of Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. As the population ages, the number of cases of Alzheimer’s disease is expected to increase dramatically. It is estimated that 85% of the unpaid help provided to older adults is from family and friends. In-home care has clear benefits, yet it is associated with unintended consequences for the caregiver, including caregiver burden and depression. This course is designed to provide an overview of who these caregivers are, identify the unique struggles that they face, and highlight caregiver interventions and their effects on care recipients.
