Jess Green, Presenter
Jess Green has been working in the nonprofit sector for over 10 years, helping small and medium sized nonprofits achieve their missions through strategic fundraising and marketing. In 2014, she received her M.A. in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of San Diego. Jess has since relocated back to her home state of Virginia where she continues to pursue her personal mission to help nonprofits and passionate people work smarter not harder to change the world. In 2017 she launched MinimalistFundraising.com, a place for newbie and veteran fundraisers to get real about where to focus their limited time and resources to raise more money for their cause. Jess is currently proud to bring her love of the outdoors together with her love of fundraising as the Director of Philanthropy at the Shenandoah National Park Trust, the official nonprofit partner of Virginia’s backyard national park. When she’s not hiking in Shenandoah, Jess and her husband Ty can be found hanging out at home with their three cats or enjoying the water at the nearest lake, river, or beach.

Liliane Lendvai, Guest Speaker
Liliane Lendvai is the Operations Manager at Blair Search Partners, a retained executive search and recruiting firm in San Diego with a unique specialization in serving nonprofit and public-sector clients. Liliane manages the firm’s daily business operations and works directly with clients and candidates to fill positions at the staff, director, and executive levels. Liliane is a 2018 graduate of the San Diego Leadership Alliance (SDLA) as well as the LEAD San Diego IMPACT program. Her community engagement includes the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN), Women Give San Diego, and Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP). She was also recently honored by LEAD San Diego with the 2018 Herbert G. Klein Memorial Award.

The Power of Data, Storytelling, and Strategic Messaging

The giving landscape is competitive. Whether you’re dealing with individual donors or organizations, the better you tell your story, the more funds you will raise. For nonprofits, investing time to gain a firmer grip on marketing, branding, and strategic communications can make a substantial difference in the organization’s viability.

“The majority of organizations may not really know how to do proper marketing,” points out Solomon Belette, Director of the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy at John F. Kennedy University. In the absence of that, they’re not reaching the audiences they could be. They may be communicating with the same group of people all the time without expanding their reach.”

Lisa Cooke

Lisa has spent over 20 years in the film industry as a producer, creative consultant, story analyst, screenwriter and actor. In production and creative development, she has worked for such clients as Warner Bros., Fox, Nickelodeon Films, Liberty Films (UK), Rearden Studios, Kerner Productions, Global Media, White Knuckle Entertainment, Golden Leaf Pictures, Blum-Hansen Productions and Pixar Animation Studios, among others. She was a guest story instructor at Expression College for Digital Arts and a directed study advisor in story for the Academy of Art College Digital Arts Program.

She currently heads Green Ray Media, which specializes in scientific, medical and environmental visualization, and teaches strategic storytelling to individuals and organizations.

She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, Women in Animation, and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Visual Effects Society.

Ethical Fundraising

Lunch and Learn with the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy

The Sanford Institute of Philanthropy’s Lunch and Learn series at John F. Kennedy University invites you to come get on a first-name basis with your nonprofit peers while hearing from an expert on a pertinent issue in the field. A light lunch will also be provided!

Each installment of the Lunch and Learn series begins with a half hour of networking followed by an hour-long lecture-style presentation, and finally, Q&A. “The purpose of the series is to help address an issue that nonprofits are challenged with, including fundraising and other issues that have a bearing on overall organizational sustainability,” explains Solomon Belette, Director of the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy. “It’s also designed to create and build community among folks working in the social sector.”
