Chuck Burack, PhD

Faculty College of Psychology

Charles Burack has been core faculty in JFK University’s B.A. Psychology Program since July 2007 and has served as the Program Director (2007-2010), the Chair of the Department of Liberal Arts (2007-2008), and the chief architect of the B.A. Liberal Studies Program.

He is an award-winning teacher, scholar and poet as well as a widely published writer. Specializing in the integration of psychology, spirituality and the creative arts, he has published two books—D. H. Lawrence’s Language of Sacred Experience and Songs to My Beloved —and dozens of essays, stories, poems and meditations. In 2012 he was awarded Outstanding Faculty in the University’s College of Undergraduate Studies. A former rabbinical student, he is an interfaith spiritual counselor and lay chaplain and is active in interfaith education, counseling and the arts. He is also a creativity and life/work coach. Burack is completing a book on integrative approaches to creativity and a book on integrative spirituality.

Prior to joining JFK University, he taught at UC Berkeley, St. Mary’s College, Naropa University, Cal State Hayward and Chabot College. He also worked as a human resource specialist, strategic planner and communications consultant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and as a research assistant at the University of Chicago Medical Center and at the University of Illinois Center for Research in Criminal Justice.
