Assessment of Educational Effectiveness

Dear Student,

For the past few years, all schools at J.F.K.U. have engaged in a process of program assessment and review. This process involves reviewing program curriculum, program learning outcomes, and assessing, from student work, how well students are learning what each school/program intends for them to learn.

Now it's the Academic Support Center's turn! To begin, we will evaluate the impact our instruction/service has on the following two intended outcomes:

  1. Students' ability to apply critical thinking and writing skills to their coursework

  2. Students' ability to self assess written work for ongoing self improvement

This process requires that we assess student work, looking at drafts, rewrites, and students' self assessments.

Students' names will be removed from the submitted papers and assessed by instructors who have not worked directly with the student on the submitted paper. No individual results will be used in this evaluation.

While our evidence will be limited to a sampling of papers, we hope that you'll use our newly created written communication assessment form (WCA, for short) to help you strengthen your academic skills and find your own voice as writers and thinkers.

Thanks for your support!
