BS Completion in Business Administration Faculty Profiles

    Shirley R. Bhatt, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Mathematics. University of Pittsburgh, B.S., 1956; M.A., 1959. Bhatt has several years of teaching experience at various levels. Bhatt has acquired a long list of achievements and awards, some of which include coauthoring a million dollar grant for school reform submitted by the Bay Area School Reform Collaborative and summer fellowships awarded by the Industry Initiative for Science and Math Education (IISME). Currently, Bhatt functions as the Mathematics Department chair at Concord High School in addition to her faculty position here at JFKU.

    Chriss D. Warren Foster, M.A., Adjunct Professor of English. University of California, Berkeley, B.A., 1983; California State University, Dominguez Hills, M.A. 1992. Foster has been teaching English and Writing for over ten years. Her published work includes Howling at the Moon: Cleansing the Spirit. Literature of Black Americans, Literature and Psychology, Surrealism and the Unconscious, and The Developing Writer are among the list of courses taught at John F. Kennedy University.

    Richard Gemmet, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Business. San Francisco State University, B.A., 1970; M.A., 1971. Gemmet has been instructing at JFKU for over ten years. Currently, Gemmet owns a consulting firm that performs training in business and education. Prior to consulting, he spent several years in the field of education, as well as organizational development.

    Dennis Hardle, B.S., Lecturer in Business. Stanford University, B.S., 1968. Hardle has more than 25 years of experience in project management, project management training and project management, telecommunications, and information technology. He is an expert in software system development, implementation and training for Primavera, Sure Trak, Microsoft Project, Scitor Project Scheduler and Micro Planner. He is also a member of the Project Management Institute.

    Linda Herkenhoff, Ph.D., Lecturer in Business. University of Western Ontario, Canada, BS, 1976; University of California, Berkeley, ME, 1982; St. Mary's College, M.BA., 1983; University of Western Australia, Ph.D., 2000. Herkenhoff has 15 years of management/supervisory experience as well as 14 years of teaching in universities. Her background includes work in countries such as the Netherlands, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Argentina, Nigeria and Canada. Currently, Herkenhoff is the president and founder of Tigaplus, which is an international Human Resources and Finance consultancy with offices in Orinda, San Francisco, New York, London and Perth. The client list includes Chevron, Bechtel, and Motorola.

    Marc Kolpin, Ph.D., Lecturer in Business. Swiss Institute of Technology, Zurich, M.A., 1957; Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Ph.D., 1962. Kolpin is a strategist with a diverse background as a scientist, entrepreneur and CEO working for such companies as TRW Systems, Physics International and as a member of the Flight Team of the Biking Mars Mission for NASA. In addition to his numerous accomplishments, he was a mentor of the start-up company that won first prize in the Goldman Sachs/Haas School of Business National Social Venture competition.

    Patricia A. Lott, M.A. Chair, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She is cofounder and CEO of Riches By Design, Inc., a consulting firm that develops and delivers financial workshops and seminars for young adults. She is also executive director of Riches By Design Money Management Network, Inc., a nonprofit organization committed to cultivating and encouraging high scholastic standards for middle and high school students in the areas of language, arts, math and financial literacy. Lott retired from the Telecommunications Industry after a very successful career. She brings over 30 years of professional experience in Information Technology (IT), project management, strategic planning and consulting. She has a strong teaching background to complement her IT experience. She is an experienced corporate educator and trainer specializing in the delivery and development of IT, project management and leadership training courses and curricula. Her training experience also includes executive coaching, seminars and workshops. Prior to joining JFK University, Lott has spent four years as a lead consultant with Fujitsu and PSINet working with clients such as: Charles Schwab, William Sonoma, Ebtel Federal Credit Union, Cisco, DHL and others.

    Adriene E Nawrocki, M.Ed., M.P.M., Lecturer in Business. Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, B.S., 1986; Pennsylvania State University, M.Ed., 1992; Carnegie Mellon University, M.P.M, 1993. Nawrocki has an extensive background in computer applications. She currently teaches a variety of computer systems, software and networking classes at Penn State University, as well as the online courses here at John F. Kennedy University. Her familiarity with the PC/MAC environments and the world of information systems make her an excellent resource for our students.

    Sue Van Atta, Ph.D., Lecturer in Business. University of California, Berkeley, B.A., 1960; M.A., 1962; Ph.D., 1967. Van Atta has a long list of teaching experience including University of California, Berkeley, San Francisco State, San Jose State, University of Philippines and Holy Names College. She has taught several courses relating to the field of economics such as Principles of Economics (Macro & Micro), Money and Banking in Underdeveloped Countries, International Economics and Business and Government.

Career Development Faculty Profiles

    Gail Lynam Dutcher, M.A. Chair, Career Development Program. M.A. Career Development, JFK, 2001, B.A. Sociology, Boston College. Gail's professional experience includes 15 years as a Business Manager with MONY (financial services firm), and 7 years with DBM (outplacement firm) in a variety of roles including Career Counselor and Regional Project Manager. Gail has also worked at Oakland Private Industry Council as a Senior Career Counselor. In addition, Gail has had a private practice, and has taught at both JFK (Resume Development) and Chapman University (Career Development in Organizations).

    Astrid Berg, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. University of California, Irvine, B.A., 1977; California State University, Long Beach, M.S. 1984; California Institute of Integral Studies, Ph.D., 1998. Berg has taught at JFKU for nearly ten years. Her experience includes writing, counseling and teaching. Berg has conceived, prepared and taught courses or seminars on several topics including Integrating Left and Right Brain, Spirituality and Career Development, Learning Styles and Study Skills, and Career Exploration and Development.

    Laura Carter, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. University of Illinois, BS, 1967; John F. Kennedy University, MA, 1997. Carter has 15 years experience counseling, coaching and training individuals and groups in life and career transitions. Carter currently works as a career counselor for the San Francisco State University. She also works for Inner Resource Consulting as a principal.

    Ronald Elsdon, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. Leeds University, B.S., 1972; Cambridge University, England, Ph.D., 1976; John F. Kennedy University, M.A., 1998. Elsdon brings several years of experience in many industries including high tech, chemicals, electronics and textiles. He is well versed in supporting and orchestrating individual and organizational growth and currently works at Drake, Beam & Morin Career Management Firm.

    Susan Geifman, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. University of Iowa, B.A., 1961; John F. Kennedy University, M.A., 1984. Geifman has over 15 years experience in career planning and development as a program director, supervisor and instructor. After twelve years as the director of the Career Development Center for JFKU, Geifman is now working independently as a career counselor and contractor.

    Mark Guterman, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. University of California, Los Angeles, B.A., 1971; Sonoma State University, M.A., 1982. Guterman has nearly 20 years of diverse experience in career development, including individual counseling, organizational consultation and training, teaching, product development, and writing articles and a book. Guterman is currently the president of G&G Associates.

    Linda Mandel, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. University of California, Berkeley, B.A., 1972; John F. Kennedy University, M.A., 1987. Mandel began her career in the field by working with PG&E and Kaiser. Developing an in-house career center, training Human Resource staff in career development theory and techniques are just a few of the accomplishments Mandel achieved while working with PG&E. Currently, she develops and teaches courses for field study career development students.

    Carole Martin, M.A., Lecturer in Career Development. San Jose State University, B.A.; John F. Kennedy University, M.A., 1997. Martin has extensive knowledge and experience in job search and interviewing techniques. Martin currently functions as a consultant for several organizations and businesses providing career counseling workshops and conducting job searches.

    Norman Meshriy, M.S., Lecturer in Career Development. San Francisco State University, B.A.; M.S. Meshriy has over 25 years of management, counseling and consultation experience in systems technology, human resources, and career management. He has managed delivery of technology development projects, served in vice-president and systems management positions for 18 years in a Fortune 100 company, ran own career counseling practice for over six years, and spent two intensive years in domestic and international settings as corporate change agent delivering training and facilitation to corporate management teams.

    Dannie O'Flaherty, M.S., Lecturer in Career Development. St. Mary's College, B.A., 1970; San Francisco State University, M.S., 1987. O'Flaherty has 20 years management, training and human resources experience. Her specialization's are in employee relations, personnel policy, customer service and operations. Her career path has put her in contact with employers such as Visa, Raychem, Federal Reserve Bank, PG&E, Ross Stores and McKesson.

    Steven Pantell, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. California State University, Chico, B.A., 1972; California State University, Fresno, M.A., 1976; California Graduate School of Family Psychology, PhD, 1987. Pantell has been a career counselor in the Bay Area for over 20 years. He has an extensive background in the field which include experience in the areas of career and vocational rehabilitation counseling, training and development, management and human resources. He is also cofounder of The Pro System which is a copyrighted (1983) job seeking skills seminar. Pantell has taught for San Francisco State, St. Mary's College, Cal Poly-Pomona, Hasting College of Law and Contra Costa Community College.

    Martha Russell, M.S., Lecturer of Career Development. Texas Woman's University, B.S., 1969; California State University, Sacramento, M.S., 1988. Russell has been teaching for nearly fifteen years in the field of Career Development. Her long list of credentials includes: founder and coeditor of international newsletter for career professionals called Global Career Resources and board positions in the National Career Development Association.

    Joan Schippmann, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. Mills College, B.A., 1954; John F. Kennedy University, M.A., 1988. Schippmann brings 15 years experience in the field of career development to the classroom. She has developed and implemented several career self-assessment workshops, established weekly job search support groups and facilitated job search workshops for professionals.

    Sharon Stearns, M.A., Adjunct Professor of Career Development. Syracuse University, B.S., 1960; John F. Kennedy University, M.A., 1988. Stearns is an accomplished trainer, counselor, and educator with 17 years experience in the fields of career development with special emphasis on learning disabilities and leadership training. She currently owns her own private practice in Walnut Creek.

    Dr. Steve Balassi (DBA- Golden Gate University) - Prof. Balassi is the Chair of the MBA program at JFKU. He also teaches at St. Mary's College, Diablo Valley College, and Napa Valley College. His dissertation is titled, "Poverty and Fiscal Policy in California". His areas of specialty are economics, accounting, and finance.

    Dr. Eric Bohr (EdD- University of Massachusetts) - Dr. Bohr brings to JFKU over 20 years of work experience. His area of specialty is strategic management.

    Dr. Raul Deju (PhD- New Mexico) - Dr. Deju has taught for UC Davis, University of Pittsburg, and Wright State University. He is currently teaching at St. Mary - s College as well as JFKU. His area of specialty is investing.

    Dr. Vladimir Genin (PhD- Moscow University) - Dr. Genin has taught at Stanford and UC Los Angeles. He teaches for Capella University as well as JFKU. His area of specialty is marketing planning for new companies.

    Dr. William Hess (PhD- St. Louis University) - Dr. Hess also teaches for UC Berkeley, University of San Francisco, Notre Dame de Namur University, and California State East Bay. His area of specialty is marketing.

    Dr. Chuck Piazza (PhD- Union Institute and University) - He currently is the Associate Program Director and Adjunct Professor for the University of San Francisco. His areas of specialty are leadership and organizations.

    Carol Robertson, Esq. (JD- UC Berkeley, ABD- UC Davis) - Prof. Robertson brings over 20 years of professional experience in the field of law. She has held Senior Counsel and Principle positions throughout her career. Her area of specialty is law and ethics.

    Dr. Donna Schaeffer (PhD- Claremont) - Dr. Schaeffer is a Director as well as Associate Professor at University of San Francisco. Her areas of specialty are quantitative methods and international business.

    Dr. Bev Scott (PhD- University of Michigan) - Dr. Scott works for the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at JFKU. Her area of specialty is organizational dynamics.

    Frank Siegert (MBA- Loyola College, Baltimore, MD) - Prof. Siegert has over 30 years of sales experience and has worked with clients such as Dial Corporation and the Golden Valley Division of Con Agra, Nestle, and IBRC Beverages. His area of specialty is management communications.

    Todd Slingsby (MS- University of San Francisco) Prof. Slingsby is the Vice President of Clorox - s HRD & Organizational Effectiveness division. He also teaches for University of San Francisco. His areas of specialty are managing and organizational cultures.

    Dr. Nancy Southern (EdD- University of San Francisco) - Dr. Southern is the interim Dean of the School of Management at JFKU. She also teaches for Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center. Her area of specialty is organizational transformation.
