SHS' Global Outreach

Acknowledging that the world is setting higher expectations for knowledge and skills, the School of Holistic Studies at John F. Kennedy University is committed to providing an educational experience of diverse worldviews, cultural perspectives, and learning styles in the service of human wholeness and sustainability.

Enrolling in the School of Holistic Studies' rich and innovative degree programs organized around the study and development of human consciousness means that you believe in our commitment to prepare people as fully as possible for the real-life demands of work, citizenship, and life in a global context defined by complexity and rapid change. To make one's way in the global knowledge based economy and international scholarly community requires higher order skills such as adaptability, creativity, teamwork, leadership, problem solving with external communities, communication and analytical skills. The School of Holistic studies calibrates learning with the realities of the world.

Direct experience is a teacher whose lessons become part of one's character. To ensure that our students are well-prepared to live and work in the world in ways that are personally satisfying and contribute to the greater good, the School of Holistic Studies offers life-skills based education that includes international travel, field study and research, and community engagement. Faculty and students presently work and learn in Malawi, New Zealand, China, India, El Salvador, and Peru.

Our holistic model emphasizes learning from and learning with others in pursuit of actively improvised, shared values, aims and interests, preserving and accentuating differences as the foundation for mutual contribution. Our internal field courses and community initiatives provide socially challenging intellectual work that features hands-on project-based inquiry that is individual and collaborative. Students praise our global outreach activities that help them achieve the capacity to consciously and freely engage the world in ways in which analysis and imagination cohere with service and love.
