Programs

Discover your talents in research, scholarship, clinical service, consultation, and social advocacy through programs in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology.

Within our innovative, diverse, and supportive environment, you'll study the latest theories and practices and prepare to address the dynamic needs of society. You'll also collaborate with our scholar-practitioner faculty in lively discussion, exchange of ideas, mentorship opportunities, and supervised clinical training in one of our Community Counseling Centers or more than 150 other Bay Area field placement sites.

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

When you seek the highest level of education to become a practitioner in the field of psychology, our PsyD program provides clinical training and practical experience with a multicultural focus. You are well prepared to handle multiple professional roles: clinician, assessor, program administrator and evaluator, consultant, educator, supervisor, and critical analyst of psychological research. Our faculty are wonderful teachers and mentors who are invested in your education.

Counseling Psychology

Re-ignite your passion for learning and service when you choose the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, one of California's leading graduate psychology programs. Achieve the education, training, and clinical experience you need as a behavioral healthcare professional in our culturally rich and diverse communities.

Discover, acknowledge, and develop your inner talents under the guidance of our exceptional faculty scholar-practitioners who challenge you with academically rigorous classroom experiences. Explore topics such as addiction studies, child and adolescent therapy, and couples and family therapy, while you carry through on your commitment to improving families and communities through our service learning opportunities.

Inspired by our learner-practitioner model, you'll benefit from extensive supervised fieldwork in a wide range of community programs, residential programs, inpatient and outpatient hospitals, as well as treatment centers, agencies assisting older adults, and other facilities. Through internships in our LEAP and expressive arts camps, you'll apply classroom learning to help children ages 6-11 develop their creative processes and essential life skills.

You'll be well prepared to apply for California licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist, sharing your talents in educational settings, government and community-based agencies, healthcare organizations, and private practice. As active participants and leaders in the profession, you can shape health care policy while positively changing families and communities.

Sport Psychology

Prepare for practice as a consultant with athletes, coaches, communities, and school groups—on performance enhancement and life-skills development. Our comprehensive Master of Arts in Sport Psychology program—the only program in California housed within a graduate school of professional psychology—combines the latest theories in sport psychology, counseling psychology, and sport science with direct applied experience. Develop your abilities in counseling and consulting, assessment, application and intervention, research techniques, ethics, and professionalism. If you are a practicing coach, trainer, or athlete, you can achieve important sport psychology skills to enhance your own performance and programs, and you will be prepared for certification with the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (AAASP).

Complete two degrees in five years through the MA/PsyD linked program, while working toward AAASP certification and a psychology practice license in California that allows you to practice as a sport psychologist and clinical psychologist.

Certificates

Complement your experience, education, or training in a specific area through our short-term certificates.

Choose our Exercise and Sport Performance Certificate if you are a health/sport/fitness professional, eligible psychologist, marriage and family therapist, or sport psychology consultant seeking to complete the coursework required to apply for AAASP certification.

Extend your sports career through the Certificate in Sport Management. Trained professionals are increasingly needed in recreational and club sports, as well as university athletics, sport event planning, associations, athletic clubs, and professional sports.

Create an individualized program to support your specific interest with the Certificate in Post-Master's Clinical Training. You must have completed a master's degree in a license-eligible program and be registered with the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as a marriage and family therapy intern or an associate social worker or be eligible for those designations.
