Adults & Children Together (ACT) Against Violence Train-The-Trainer Workshop

The ACT Mission

hispfam sm2 An explosion of violence in neighborhoods across the country has prompted John F. Kennedy University's (JFKU) Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) to partner with the American Psychological Association (APA) and its Adults and Children Together (ACT) Against Violence initiative. The mission of ACT is to educate and mobilize families, professionals, and communities to prevent violence before it occurs.

ACT Train-the-Trainer Workshop

As part of the ACT initiative, the GSPP offers the ACT Train-the Trainer Workshop for anyone seeking certification to teach the ACT Parents Raising Safe Kids (PRSK) program in their local area. PRSK is an 8-week anti-violence education program for parents and other caregivers of children aged 0-8 years.

In 2008, 98% of participants in the ACT Train-the-Trainer Workshops rated:

  • Program instructors as very knowledgeable about early violence prevention,
  • Training materials as highly relevant to early violence prevention,
  • The Training as very effective.
The GSPP, located in Pleasant Hill, California, is one of the American Psychological Association's (APA) 5 Regional Training Sites for the ACT Train-the-Trainer Workshop, and serves Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

    Testimonials

"This is one of the best courses I've ever taken. Participating in the exercises I'll be leading really built my confidence to teach the Parents Raising Safe Kids program. It also prepared me for the types of issues that might come up for people in my own groups. I can't wait to offer this program to families in my community!"

    - Cecilia de Rubira, Case Worker, Stand Against Domestic Violence

"I recently taught the Parents Raising Safe Kids program in downtown San Francisco and was amazed by the response. I even earned enough teaching my first program to pay for the cost of the Train-the- Trainer workshop. I highly recommend this program for anyone looking to do more work with children, parents and families."

    - Julio Escobar, President and Founder, Youth Change Alternatives
