Course Description

Psychotherapy is challenging work with unique demands, which can be taxing on many levels - physically, emotionally, psychologically, relationally and spiritually. Unfortunately, while caring for others, many therapists and health care professionals find that they have neglected to care for themselves. Over time, this can lead to secondary traumatization, compassion fatigue, feelings of isolation, self-neglect and difficulties in personal relationships. It can also lead to burnout and doubts about one's vocational future.

In this course, led by a former member of the APA's Advisory Committee on Colleague Assistance (ACCA), participants will examine industry-recommendations for self-care and learn several simple and effective practices for stress reduction and relief. Participants will also have the opportunity to share helpful tips with each other, and will leave with an easy-to-implement plan on how to sustain a healthy work-life balance.
