Treatment outcomes for children can be greatly enhanced when therapists form a working alliance with parents. This introductory to intermediate course presents methods for helping parents understand and support their child’s therapy. Participants will examine various aspects of parental alliance, including parent communications through all stages of therapy; matching parental styles with engagement strategies; and filial, family and home play therapy.

Participants will also learn to evaluate the effectiveness of different theoretical models when applied to presenting issues in children. Although this course primarily emphasizes work with children, some time will also be spent addressing work with adolescents.
