Course Description

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful approach to treat PTSD, phobias, anxiety disorders and other conditions arising from traumatic life events. Through lecture and experiential exercises, video and live demonstration, participants will learn the theoretical basis for EMDR, the criteria for its use and the basic protocol and procedures to implement it in an integrated psychotherapy approach. Participants will also practice the use of the basic EMDR procedure in a supervised setting.

Covered topics will also include: using EMDR to address trauma-based issues, basic uses of cognitive interweave, mobilizing inner resources, identifying source events, and a variety of basic applications of EMDR.

Participants must be licensed mental health practitioners or supervised interns.

Recommended text: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Basic Principles, Protocols and Procedures by Francine Shapiro.

Clinicians unfamiliar with EMDR may wish to take EMDR in Action before this Part I course. The 4-hour EMDR in Action course uses live demonstrations and videos to show some of the clinical results achievable through EMDR. Those who take EMDR in Action will be eligible for a 10% discount off of EMDR I & II.
