How does your program meet the requirements for state licensure in California? For other states?

Our program meets the state prescribed guidelines in preparation for licensure as an MFT, as outlined in the Business and Professional Code Section 4980.37. While our degree program is structured to meet the specific licensing requirements for California, we believe and have found that it also provides the essential coursework necessary to pursue licensure in other states. Licensure requirements vary, and it is always prudent to contact the licensing agency in the state where you intend to practice.

What is your school's pass rate on the state's licensure test?

A recent survey of 382 alumni from the M.A. in Counseling Psychology Program showed that approximately 93% of those who sought licensure received their license. Our "first time" pass rate remains extremely high compared to other schools.

The university's integrated faculty model enhances study at the Graduate School of Professional Psychology. Professors are practicing clinicians who bring professional expertise to the classroom. Our counseling centers provide students firsthand counseling experience in a supportive environment under faculty supervision.

What types of careers can I expect to find once I graduate from the master's in counseling psychology program?

Graduates from the counseling program can expect a range of career options including private practice; counseling in schools, agencies, hospitals and county mental health clinics; teaching in colleges; or becoming human resource specialists in corporate employee assistance programs. We believe our coursework offers students an opportunity to apply the basic tenets of counseling while developing the analytic and writing skills necessary to compete effectively for many positions within the job market.
