Studio Arts - MFA

The MFA in Studio Arts (90 units) in the Department of Arts & Consciousness enables students who have already achieved a high level of technical and philosophical sophistication to enter the world as exhibiting artists.

This MFA program represents a new voice currently reshaping the art world by combining multiculturalism, personal authenticity, and social transformation in 21st century art. This graduate degree program in studio arts emphasizes the connection among culture, spirituality, and personal identity. It challenges students to listen to and trust their own experience of truth and meaning as the basis for culturally significant artwork.

While there are no concentrations or specializations in the MFA program, students come from a variety of backgrounds and are encouraged to work with a range of media while taking new approaches to their artwork. Presently, there are MFA students working in:

  • Painting and Drawing
  • Sculpture
  • Installation
  • Performance and Time-based Art/Conceptual Art
  • Video
  • Printmaking
  • Photography
  • Book Arts
  • Digital Arts

In order to be admitted to the program, candidates for the MFA must already demonstrate a high level of personal commitment to their artwork, which enables them to venture into the deepest levels of spiritual, cultural, and physical reality.
