Non-profit Business Manager

As the demand for accountability grows in both the private and public sectors, managers of nonprofit organizations increasingly need and achieve the same education and backgrounds as their for-profit counterparts. Many nonprofit business managers hold undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts as well as graduate degrees in business administration. The particular focus of the nonprofit organization may dictate specific education or special training useful to facilitate its successful operation.

In addition to highly developed personal skills, nonprofit business managers need an analytical mind able to quickly assess large amounts of information and data, and the ability to consider and evaluate the relationship among multiple factors. They must also be able to communicate clearly and persuasively and demonstrate leadership, self-confidence, motivation, decisiveness, flexibility, sound business judgment, and determination.

At JFKU, the School of Management (SOM) offers programs and courses in business administration that provide a solid foundation in the management functions of planning, leading, organizing, and decision making. You develop skills for identifying, analyzing, and solving problems as you expand your understanding of an organization’s diverse economic, legal, ethical, and technical environments. Specializations include project management, e-commerce, leadership, and strategic management.
