Fund-raiser

Fund-raisers find and develop the financial resources needed to support the missions of advocacy, grant-making, and civic organizations that work to better their communities by directly addressing issues of public concern through service, independent action, or civic engagement. Such organizations encompass every aspect of human activity, from symphonies to little leagues and homeless shelters to day care centers to natural resource conservation advocates. They are dedicated to a specific mission that enhances the social fabric of society.

Because these entities are neither business nor government, they are known as nonprofits or not-for-profits. Nonprofits generally rely on a small group of paid staff, volunteers, and financial support from large numbers of their members and/or the public. Therefore, these agencies need individuals with strong communication and fundraising skills because organizations must constantly mobilize public or member support for their activities.
