SHS Colloquium Series: Neurotheology
Wednesday, May 28
3:00 pm
100 Ellinwood Way, Rm N159
Pleasant Hill
This event is free and open to the public.
Neurotheology examines what occurs in the brain during religious or mystical experiences, such as rituals, meditation, and contacts with the divine. It investigates whether the brain is hardwired for spirituality and whether there are similar neural mechanisms at work across various traditions. By taking an integral approach to neurotheology, we can explore how advances in neuroscience give us additional tools for understanding our religious studies or spiritual practices. We can look to these direct experiences for how they inform the questions of neuroscience.
