The Master of Arts in Consciousness & Transformative Studies explores the meaning of human experience and the nature of self. Topics explored include the psychology of consciousness, East-West philosophical and spiritual perspectives, the new physics, emerging paradigms of consciousness, sustainability, and other subjects that influence how we view the world and, consequently, how we may ac as global citizens. The program emphasizes practical application and professional skills that enable graduates to launch professional careers as agents of social change. Department of Holistic Counseling Psychology
In our unique holistic counseling psychology program, you'll integrate mind, body, and spirit with solid academic training in professional counseling skills through our strong emphasis on self-exploration and personal growth. You'll learn to work psychotherapeutically with individuals, couples, families, and groups to address topics involved in marriage and family, child therapy, cross-cultural issues, addiction, individual development, diagnosis and assessment, as well as group process and effective communication. Choose a specialization in somatic psychology, transpersonal psychology, or holistic studies. At our Campbell campus in the South Bay, you can enrich your holistic training from an emphasis in Buddhist psychology. You'll complete a field placement at our Center for Holistic Counseling in Oakland, at JFKU's Sunnyvale Community Counseling Center, or at another approved site in the Bay area. And you'll be well prepared to achieve a California licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). Department of Holistic Health Education
The Department of Holistic Health Education is a leader in holistic health education. Increasing numbers of people now understand the key role played by health educators, coaches, and consultants in our present healthcare climate. The importance of making good lifestyle choices is widely accepted, as people are learning that a focus on wellness is essential to human well-being, and not just for preventing illness. Holistic health has become the new mainstream life practice, and many career opportunities for well-trained holistic health educators are emerging. The School of Holistic Studies offers an academically demanding Master of Arts in Holistic Health Education that prepares individuals to enhance their lives and those of others by promoting wellness. The degree enables graduate health educators to bring holsitic health insight, information, and direction to colleagues and patients who undergo Western medical interventions and treatments. Bringing holistic health ideas to conventional medicine is not the only option, however, as many graduates are opening u0p new professional possibilities. They work for innovative companies that employ new ways to do business; they strike out on their own to create businesses and consulting practices, and they work in non-profit organizations and schools. Many choose to specialize in holistic nutrition. The Department of Holistic Health Education emphasizes the health of individuals, communities, systems, and the environment. An essential part of the learning in the program involves being a member of a vibrant community of like-minded, yet richly different people. Students enjoy diverse venues for hands-on learning in internships, the department's Sustainability, Health, and Education Garden, and through professionals offerings of the Institute of Wellness Education. At the heart of the Integral Psychology program is a passion for investigating the profound levels of existence and human potential. Through the study of psychology, spirituality, and the evolution of consciousness, students develop a strong theoretical and practical foundation of Western Psychology, the world's wisdom traditions, and the skillful means for applying these principles to personal and professional life. The program includes the study of psycho-spiritual development and stages of consciousness from humanistic, social, cultural, transpersonal, and integral perspectives. The program also fosters deep understanding of interpersonal dynamics and effective communication skills, as well as a capacity for self-reflection and self-inquiry necessary for personal transformation. When applied to life, these skills produce a clearer understanding of physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth. Graduates of the program apply this degree to fields as diverse as education, consulting, coaching, human resources, management, social change, and sustainability work with a global emphasis. In partnership with the Integral Institute, the Department of Integral Theory offers a Master of Arts in Integral Theory that explores the integration of body, mind and spirit in the realms of self, culture, and cosmos. This online program is the world's first accredited Master's program based on the Integral Model developed by Ken Wilber. The courses are taught by leading scholar-practitioners in the field and deliver a practical and theoretical foundation in all important aspects of the Integral Model. Students gain confidence in using the model to analyze any situation, ranging from complex social or organizational problems to personal growth. They learn to ground their analyses on the model's fundamental assumption that all major aspects and contexts of a problem must be taken into consideration. The MA in Integral Theory stimulates direct experience of the value of applying differing perspectives from multiple disciplines to any situation. Explorations occur through pioneering case studies and areas of personal and professional relevance to students. The program has a unique combination of academic and applied investigation that leads to original research and application.
