Supervisors have an ethical responsibility to their supervisees, their clients and their profession, and must abide by the current laws and regulations regarding client care and employment. This course provides valuable legal and ethical information to clinical supervisors in mental health and social services settings. Participants will discuss ethical supervision practice, ethical expectations of supervisees, legal and ethical issues in client care, supervisor competency expectations, hiring and firing, supervisory liability risk and risk-prevention, dual relationships and supervision documentation.

This course meets the BBS & BOP requirements for those who supervise psychologists, MFT interns and ASWs.

Instructor Biography

Rachel Michaelsen, LCSW, is the Training Consultant at Asian Pacific Psychological Services in Oakland, where she has supervised graduate students, doctoral students, ACSWs and MFTIs since 1998. A CAMFT-certified supervisor who received a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Supervision from Smith College School for Social Work, she has taught courses in Clinical Supervision at JFK University, Alliant International University and NASW. She maintains a private practice in Oakland.
