"I will be the voice for those the world doesn't hear."
-Lindsay Peak
"As much as a public interest institution such as JFK university cares about teaching me the letter of the law, it also takes great care in preserving the spark that drew me to its institution and teaching me the spirit of the law that can fuel it."
-Mo Hamoudi

Social justice. Leadership. Community. JFKU School of Law endorses the philosophy that a comprehensive legal education should prepare you for professional success and should teach you about the role of law in advancing social justice. Consistent with our overall mission, we have opened a Public Interest Law Program, based at our Berkeley campus, where students perform over 600 hours of internship work in public interest placements as part of their graduation requirements.
For over forty years, JFKU School of Law has graduated hundreds of students who have become talented, committed, socially responsible attorneys serving their clients with skill and integrity. They all share a common bond gained through our challenging program. Here are some facts to consider about JFKU as you explore your legal education options:
Classes are small, and the teaching style is collaborative and active. No class has more than 40 students. You will be fully engaged in class discussions and will have the opportunity to develop strong relationships with faculty willing to exchange ideas, assist you academically, and support your development as a legal professional.
The educational culture is cooperative and collegial. Although each student must meet the challenges of law school on his or her own merit, we promote an academic culture that is supportive of your efforts.
The culture and climate at JFKU is reflective and supportive of the diversity of our community. Our law student body is one of the most diverse in California. We believe that a community of learners from diverse backgrounds contributes to the quality of our educational program and best serves the needs of the communities in need of capable legal counsel and representation.
Our faculty consists of full-time and part-time professors with outstanding records as lawyers, educators, and judges. Our teacher-practitioners bring the most up-to-date professional perspectives to class and mentor students beyond the classroom.
You can gain real-world legal experience in our Elder Law, Housing Advocacy and Criminal Defender clinics. The curriculum at JFKU emphasizes not only the topics covered on the California Bar Examination, but also the skills and expertise needed to become an effective practitioner. Once students have become grounded in fundamental legal doctrine and procedure, you are encouraged to work in clinics or internships where you will obtain hands-on training, introduce yourself to the legal community in which you will soon be a member, and provide valuable legal services to clients. You are likely to make your first court appearance (along with your supervising faculty member) while still in law school.
