2005 Alumni of the Year

The alumni acknowledged for their distinguished service to their profession and community were:

  • Dr. Vincent J. Granito, Jr., a resident of Garfield Heights, OH
  • Dr. Michael G. Harris of Pleasant Hill, CA
  • Patricia Lott of San Ramon, CA
  • Cheri E. Molnar of San Ramon, CA
  • Barbara Schuh of Lafayette, CA.

Dr. Granito received his M.S. in Consulting Psychology, with a specialization in Sport Psychology, from the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at JFK University and went on to serve as an adjunct professor and Fieldwork Coordinator of Sport Psychology for the school. He obtained his Ph.D. in Psychology from Saybrook Graduate School in San Francisco. Granito has served as a consultant to a variety of high school and college athletes, published a number of articles and made numerous presentations throughout the country and abroad in the field of sport psychology. He also teaches social skills and violence prevention workshops and writes for the Society for the Prevention of Violence. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Lorain County Community College in Ohio and is the co-chair for the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Intercollegiate Social Sciences and Humanities Association.

Dr. Harris obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the JFK University School of Law. Prior to this, he had been granted a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California. He is recognized in the field of optometric jurisprudence, as well as that of contact lenses, and has served as a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration Ophthalmic Devices Panel and the Chief of the Contact Lens Clinic at the University of California for over 30 years. Dr. Harris is Mayor of the City of Pleasant Hill and has served in leadership positions on various civic agencies and commissions over the years. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the JFK University School of Law Alumni Association, the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Greater East Bay and the Board of Advisors of the Mt. Diablo Regional YMCA.

Ms. Lott was granted her Master's Degree from JFK University's School of Management in 1999 and currently serves as the Program Chair/Assistant Dean of the school. Before joining JFK University, she enjoyed a successful career at SBC Communications and Fujitsu Corporation as a highly effective and respected senior manager in the Information Technology field. Her passion is working with working with teens and young adults and her dedication to enabling teens to achieve academic excellence and financial independence led her to found the Riches by Design Money Matters Network, Inc. - a nonprofit organization that designs and provides Financial Literacy and Academic tutorial programs to schools in the East Bay. Ms. Lott is currently the chair of the JFK University Diversity Affairs Council and is chairperson for the Diablo Valley College-JFK University Community Outreach Program.

Ms. Molnar received her teaching credential with an emphasis on Childhood Education from JFK University School of Education and Liberal Arts. She also obtained her Master's Degree in Holistic Health at the University. She currently is a third grade teacher in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, where she has been instrumental in implementing numerous classroom management and community involvement programs. Her work there has earned her the Cynthia Kopp Award for Creativity and Innovation in Education. She also is an adjunct professor at JFK University, providing instruction on classroom management, assessment and the portfolio process and supervising student teachers placed in low-income schools around the East Bay. She previously served as the Principal of the Camelot School in Castro Valley and the Corporate Wellness Manager for Quantum Corporation.

Ms. Schuh obtained a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the JFK University School of Holistic Studies. Drawing from her education and her work experience in social services and nursing home, she founded Companion Care, providing geriatric care management, in home care and errand/escort services. Her company is committed to enabling all individuals to age with dignity and to continue to live full, happy lives, providing some services to low-income individuals at little or no cost. Ms. Schuh is a member of the Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging and Chair of the Council's Sub-committee on Senior Transportation. She serves on the Policy and Procedure Committee of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers and the Home and Home Health Care Committee of the California Association of Health Services at Home.
