Green Career Initiative

JFK University’s Continuing and Extended Education division and  the Green Career Institute (GCI) have joined forces to create a pioneering Green Career Initiative – designed to train and empower individuals for the rapidly emerging green economy.

The current tally of 8.5 million U.S. jobs in renewable-energy and clean-tech industries is anticipated to grow to as many as 40 million jobs by 2030. A recent workforce study commissioned by the Greater Silicon Valley Center of Excellence concluded that two out of three employers in the solar industry have difficulty at this time in finding entry level employees with appropriate training and education, and three out of four employers indicated a difficulty in finding experienced candidates. Hence, there is a booming need for green collar workers nationwide, and more importantly, the local workforce is currently ill prepared to meet this growing demand.

Our Green Career Initiative offers students professional certificates and career counseling designed specifically for those transitioning to new careers or seeking to remain ahead of the curve in the emerging Green Industry.

With our focus on industry-recognized, accredited curriculum, JFK University’s green career certificate programs offers students to complete workforce-ready training in a short amount of time and without the heavy financial burdens related to traditional degree programs.

Our green career certificates solve traditional workforce training challenges by:

  • Providing fundamental skills and practical knowledge training for specific, high growth, “green collar” industries and sectors;
  • Offering industry-leading professional development and workforce training programs in an accredited academic setting, respected by employers and industry leaders;
  • Preparing program graduates to market themselves in various green sector industries; and
  • Ensuring that “quality control” is the foundation to a rapidly emerging industry.

Our “bootcamp” training model is an intense, comprehensive format that focuses on:

  • Providing individuals with in-demand, practical, real-time skills for a rapidly expanding green workforce;
  • Delivering state-of-the-art “green” vocational training, workforce development, and new career pathways; and
  • Addressing the current and anticipated market needs for a well-trained and technically capable workforce in the emerging and innovative green economy.

Our approach is to provide the necessary skill-sets, education, and job resources people need for the sustainability industry. Through our current Certificates, we offer live classroom, hands-on training developed by green industry subject matter experts and educators and a cutting-edge curriculum that is up-to-date, market-ready, and IRC-accredited. Our Certificate graduates are some of the most competitive job seekers in the emerging green workforce.

In addition to Continuing and Extended Education's current offerings, we are developing training and education programs in the areas of green industry test preparation, sustainability, renewable energy, and green business practices. Graduates of our training programs can move quickly to a career in the green industry or in jobs requiring a background on renewable energy and sustainability.

About our Partner:
JFK University’s Continuing and Extended Education Division has partnered with the Green Career Institute (GCI), which provides an unmatched pool of educational and training resources. GCI’s instructors have trained over 6,000 students in solar energy. We use hands-on lab experience and career counseling options to deliver the top training experience in the industry for our students.

Continuing and Extended Education's green career certificate programs are shorter-term and are aimed at training, retraining and certifying workers in the solar and renewable energy fields. By way of our partnership with GCI, our Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Solar Thermal (ST) Certificate programs are accredited by every major association that certifies solar education programs, including Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) IREC/ISPQ certified continuing education and are registered with North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) for continuing education credits. Students may qualify to sit for each of the NABCEP Entry Level Exams immediately after completing the 40-hour Certificate programs.
