CE1160 When Grief Becomes Depression: Identifying and Transforming Deep Pain

Course Description

Applicable Field: Psychologist, MFT, LCSW, RN

Credit Hours:  6

When unprocessed grief lies at the core of depression, a duel-intervention model is needed: CBT to change the current distorted thoughts and grief therapy to honor the old grief and to assess where it is stuck so that the client can effectively process and move beyond it. By integrating elements of CBT and William Worden’s model of Grief Therapy, this course presents a new way of managing the stuck grief which, if left unprocessed, makes clients more vulnerable to depression. Participants will learn how to help clients honor their grief and identify the thoughts that reinforce it, so they can begin to release it and reengage in life. Although this course is open to therapists of all levels of experience, a basic understanding of CBT is recommended.
