Dr. Van Oot has taught at the graduate level for 30 years and has been with John F. Kennedy University since 1995. He teaches BioPsychology and Psychopharmacology as core courses and a Neuropsychology sequence, Health Psychology, advanced CBT, and Pediatric/Geriatric Psychopharmacology as electives. His research background includes neuroanatomy, neurophysiology of epilepsy, psychopharmacology, sleep, and anxiety disorders; and he continues to focus on the physiological or medical processes that underlie or contribute to psychological disturbances.
He believes in a mentorship model of supervision hoping to impart to his students "the experience and direction I wish I would have received from my advisors - but oftentimes didn't."
He is a member of APA Division 38, and 40, the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN), the Northern California Neuropsychology Forum (NCNF), and the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM).
Dr. Van Oot maintains a consultation-based private practice, specializing in neuropsychological and general psychological assessment/evaluation.
