Counseling Psychology
Prepare to become a marriage and family therapist – “one of the 50 best careers of 2010” according to U.S. News and World Report – at JFK University…today.
JFK University offers two Master of Arts programs in this area of study: an MA in Counseling Psychology and an MA in Counseling Psychology - Holistic. With these two programs, we are uniquely positioned to offer the type of training you need and want to become an exceptional therapist. We offer:
- Rigorous academic curriculum that blends traditional training and practices with innovative theories and approaches.
- Intimate classroom learning experiences with dedicated, regionally acclaimed and nationally known faculty, many of whom are currently practicing in the field;
- Wide array of specializations from which to choose;
- Part- and full-time options with convenient class times.
And to promote individual personal as well as academic growth, we encourage students to pursue personal exploration through their own psychotherapy experience.
JFK University also provides one of the largest clinical training programs in Northern California. We have three community counseling centers in the greater San Francisco Bay Area – Oakland, Pleasant Hill, and Sunnyvale – a distinctive feature of our programs that insures continuity of curriculum and a high quality of supervision for our students while providing them the opportunity to hone their skills and provide service to the community.
Our graduates consistently do well on the California Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) license exam. On the most recent written clinical exam for the MFT license, there were more JFK University students taking the exam than from any other institution in the State. And the pass rate among the first-time test takers from JFK University on this exam was over 80%, ranking JFK University among the top schools with 30 or more graduates. As a result, our graduates are among the most sought after by agencies and other employers.
Counseling Psychology programs are offered at the Pleasant Hill, Berkeley and San Jose campuses in the Bay Area.
