Gina Baleria, chair of the Journalism and Digital Media program, brings extensive experience as a journalist, project manager, writer, and digital communications strategist to John F. Kennedy University. She spent more than 15 years in TV, radio, and multimedia, as a writer, producer, and reporter. She most recently worked as assistant news and social media director/acting news director for KGO Radio. She also worked as web producer at KCBS creating an award-winning web presence in the crowded news field. Her work at KCBS garnered multiple awards from the Associated Press and Radio and Television Digital News Association, including a national Edward R. Murrow Award. As communications manager at California Forward, Gina was instrumental in developing a digital newsroom focused on governance. Prior to that, she produced many insightful and important panels and discussions as Director of Programs and Literary Events at The Commonwealth Club.
Gina teaches radio production and digital media strategy at San Francisco State University and is an instructor of video editing at Contra Costa College.
Outside of media, Gina is a Bay Area actor, director, and theatre producer. She co-founded and sits on the board of Atmos Theatre/Theatre in the Woods and serves on the board of Theatre Bay Area.
Ms. Baleria is a member of the Broadcast Education Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Online News Association, and the Journalism and Women Symposium.
