This one-day conference will bring together leading experts to present the latest research and best practices for understanding and treating the complex challenges facing returning soldiers and families dealing with combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

This program is intended for primary care and community health providers, mental health professionals, substance abuse treatment providers, veterans and their families, advocacy groups, educators, clergy, law enforcement personnel, federal, state and local agencies, veterans service organizations, and others interested in the issues facing returning military and their families.

Veterans Treatment Courts: Improving Outcomes for Our Military Service Personnel
Honorable Stephen V. Manley, Superior Court Judge, Veterans Treatment Court, Santa Clara County

Judge Stephen V. Manley founded California’s first “Veteran’s Treatment Court," where case workers, probation officers, therapists, attorneys, County treatment and the Veterans Administration collaborate to provide immediate, on-site integrated mental-health services, drug rehabilitation treatment, housing, employment and life-skills training to defendants struggling with PTSD, TBI, substance abuse and mental illness. This collaborative team helps veterans maintain sobriety and re-integrate into the workforce and improve their quality of life in Santa Clara County, and is successfully reducing the number of veterans being sentenced to time in jail and prison.
