Veterans Academic Advisor: The Office of Admissions at John F. Kennedy University’s Pleasant Hill campus is seeking a Veterans Academic Advisor. This is a 40-hour per week, full-time, position with a schedule to be determined. This non-exempt position comes with benefits that include vacation and sick leave accruals, medical, dental, 403(b) eligibility, long-term disability, dependent care, voluntary life and/or long-term care insurance and tuition waiver benefits. The salary will be commensurate with experience. 

Requirements for this position include: a bachelor’s degree; one to three years of college/university recruiting experience or equivalent experience; experience working with a veteran/military population; strong interpersonal and communication skills; and proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and e-mail and database management. The ability to represent the University to prospective students and the community at large, with an emphasis on veterans, cannot be overstated. Travel to different events around the Bay Area is required with possible overnight stays, thus a California driver’s license and auto insurance is required. (A California DMV printout may be requested.) Prior military experience preferred.

The Veterans Academic Advisor position entails: 20% recruitment, 25% student retention and 55% outreach. Responsibilities include: responding to inquiries from prospective veteran students for all JFKU degree programs; serving as a liaison between the Colleges and the Office of Admission in development and implementation of veteran recruiting strategies; representing the University at transfer and graduate events, job fairs and veteran’s events; effectively interacting with prospective veteran students from the point of inquiry through registration; providing academic advisement and support strategies to veteran students to foster degree completion; maintaining a database of outreach effort; collaborating with University departments regarding veteran outreach efforts; and coordinating and attending various open house events.

The successful candidate will be an energetic, organized, self-starter with a solid understanding of veteran student needs and effective networking skills to increase the population of veteran students within all JFKU programs.
