Retention Specialist – John F. Kennedy University, Pleasant Hill Campus. This position is a 40 hour per week position, Monday – Friday 9:30 am – 6:00 pm. This non-exempt position comes with benefits that include vacation and sick leave accruals, medical, dental, vision and 403(b) retirement eligibility.
The Retention Specialist will report directly to the Director of Student Affairs and will perform the full range of functions associated with administering a retention plan to identify ‘At-Risk’ students and developing tools and methods for student persistence and success. The Retention Specialist will develop and implement retention measures, build and maintain relationships with students, faculty and staff, working in a team environment with other retention-focused positions, and assessing results. Specifically, the Retention Specialist will coach students through barriers that are preventing them from progressing and will track student progress.
The requirements for this position include a bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred), three to five years of experience in adult and non-traditional education, experience using student tracking databases. Ability to think analytically, strong communicator, knowledge of student development theories and application. Willingness to learn and work with technology, specifically word processing environments, internet navigation, databases and email correspondences.
Additional requirements include attention to detail, the ability to think analytically and work independently and under pressure with multiple priorities and timeframes. The successful candidate will be student-oriented, professional, flexible, diplomatic, and have the ability to explain University policies and procedures clearly.
