The College of Graduate and Professional Studies at John F. Kennedy University (JFKU) invites applications for a Program Chair in its APA-accredited Doctoral Program (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology. The program currently has 10 core faculty and a large adjunct faculty pool serving approximately 140 students. The mission of the PsyD Program is to train ethical, culturally-competent practitioner-scholars to provide comprehensive, high-quality psychological services to diverse clients across a variety of settings from a social justice perspective. The Program Chair also is a Core Faculty member in the program, and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies.

The Chair is responsible for the management and leadership of the PsyD Program, including support of its strong multicultural mission. Specific duties include the following: 1) Providing leadership to program Faculty, particularly in modeling and ensuring adherence to program, college, and university policies and decisions; 2) Leading program improvement efforts, including active contribution to academic program review and annual student learning assessments; 3) Ensuring maintenance and success of accreditations and certifications; 4) Recruiting, selecting, developing, and evaluating all program-related faculty, including establishment of performance expectations and feedback; 5) Developing. monitoring, and executing a program budget and schedule; 5) Fostering a climate that promotes creativity and intellectual innovation; 6) Providing outreach to prospective students and the community; 7) Overseeing all processes related to students in the program (e.g., evaluation, academic success, behavioral and professional comportment, grievances); 8) Developing, updating, and disseminating program-unique policies, procedures, and functions; 9) Supervising staff, and 10) Participating in college and university governance and other activities. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Chair is expected to do limited teaching in the program as a Core Faculty member.

Candidates for this position must have earned a Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and be California-licensed or license-eligible. In addition, candidates must have previous teaching and administrative experience in a doctoral-granting department or program; be knowledgeable about accreditation processes, particularly WASC and APA, and be prepared to usher the program successfully through its current probationary status; be knowledgeable and comfortable with the use of technology in higher education; demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to and experience in multicultural models of clinical and research training; exhibit ability to implement, evaluate, and maintain high standards of quality in education across varying courses and pedagogies; demonstrate capacity to communicate and advocate for the program (faculty, staff, and students) both within the university and to the broader community; and exhibit skills in team-building and motivating others, collaborative planning and decision-making, and communicating with diverse constituencies and communities.
