Chief Finanical Officer (CFO)


John F. JFKU is an affiliate of the National University System (NUS) and as such, the CFO will partner with colleagues from the System to more fully integrate JFKU’s procedures with those undertaken by the System.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) directs the fiscal functions of the University in accordance with generally established accounting principles exercising appropriate financial management techniques. Providing direct leadership to the Office of Finance and Accounting, the CFO is a key member of the management team reporting directly to the University President.

Demonstrating advanced technical expertise, the CFO acts as strategic partner who thrives in a ‘hands on’ collaborative environment by planning, organizing and implementing the University’s fiscal performance though development of continuous improvement, financial strength and operating efficiency in alignment with NUS. The CFO ensures departmental credibility by producing timely accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and trends directly assisting the President, the Board and other senior executives in performance of their responsibilities.

Competencies will include significant financial management and technical capacity, problem solving analytics, strategic thinking, and a strong sense of integrity and ethical conduct. 

Minimum requirements are:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related; CPA license or MBA preferred;
  • 5+ years of accounting or finance experience that include at least 3 years of supervisory responsibilities;
  • Higher Education or non-profit industry is a plus;
  • Strong leadership skills marked by a collaborative team orientation;
  • Ability to motivate team members at all levels to cultivate a dynamic & highly productive work environment;
  • Knowledge and experience with Peoplesoft considered a plus.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, most notably Excel.
  • Assertive, independent and results oriented.
  • Able to work well under pressure.

Salary is competitive and dependent upon experience and qualifications.

This position is a regular, fulltime exempt position reporting to the President of the University, and includes vacation and sick leave benefits as well as a flexible benefit plan offering medical, dental, 403(b) retirement eligibility, FSA, dependent care, long term disability, basic life insurance and tuition waiver.
