Associate Director - Human Resources

John F. Kennedy University is seeking an Associate Director of Human Resources (HR). This position is the main point of contact for policy administration and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for JFKU with a dotted line responsibility to Associate Vice President of Human Resources for National University (NU). The Associate Director of Human Resources provides leadership and management for the human resources organization, programs and services including strategic planning, policy administration, organization consulting, staffing, training and development, employee and labor relations, benefits, leaves of absence, compensation, payroll, human resource information systems and safety. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct implementation of human resource programs and policies to: 1) facilitate the successful achievement of the University’s mission; and 2) recruit, develop, retain and reward its workforce. Programs include but are not limited to:

               -  Compensation Planning
               -  Performance Development
               -  Recruitment
               -  Employee Relations
               -  Employee Recognition & Awards
               -  Benefits (including administration of leaves of absence)
               -  Health &  Safety
               -  Leadership Development

  • Exercise discerning judgment, consultative decision-making, creative problem solving and innovative approaches to managing University HR issues
  • Promote effective communication between the University and employees including working with faculty and staff advisory committees. Mediate employee relations issues and provide coaching for employees and managers
  • Provide internal consulting services for organization design and development
  • Lead automation efforts to streamline and improve human resources programs and processes (i.e., Janzabar, CARS, Payroll, SOAR and metrics)

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of successful Human Resource management experience or equivalent
  • Strong HR generalist skills
  • Leading and managing and HR organization
  • Developing a diverse staff and earning their respect
  • Developing and maintaining up-to-date HR policies and programs
  • Communicating and collaborating with multiple constituencies
  • Understanding and implementing human resource information system technology
  • Interpreting and applying employment related statutes and governmental regulations

  • Outstanding communicator with the ability to deal with people at all levels of the organization and who can create a sense of “team”
